Walls, Diaries, and Paintings is a monograph of José Parlá’s multimedia art work. The book includes essays by Isolde Brielmaier, Greg Tate and Michael Betancourt, with graphic design by Jutta Herden.
Born in Miami in 1973, critically-acclaimed artist José Parlá has spent his career focused on what lies at the boundary between abstraction and calligraphy. In Media Res is meticulous monograph of Parlá’s work, and represents themes from his childhood in South Florida in the ‘80s, time spent in Puerto Rico and abroad, and journeys through his ancestral Cuba. He currently lives and works in Brooklyn.
