This Rirkrit Tiravanija beach towel is part of Art Production Fund’s WOW (Works on Whatever). A unique collection of everyday items designed by artists. APF invites artists to experiment with the latest commercial materials and techniques to bring art off the walls and into homes as everyday objects. WOW introduces contemporary art to a larger community with revenues from sales supporting our non-profit mission. WOW works conceptually with APF’s program of expanding art audiences and helps fund public art!
Rirkrit Tiravanija is conceptual artist born in Buenos Aires. He works primarily with installation, with an emphasis placed on the way people interact. Past installations have featured cooking for gallery visitors, meal sharing and reading and playing music. Tiravanija says his work stresses the importance of “what takes place between people”. His work has been shown at museums and galleries worldwide including Serpentine Gallery in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003. In addition, he has co-curated several projects, including one featured at 2003’s Venice Biennale.
