Michael Motorcycle - The Standard, Hollywood limited edition print
California based artist Michael Motorcycle created this limited edition of 300 hand silkscreened, hand-signed and numbered posters for The Standard, Hollywood. This is the fourth in a series for each of The Standards. 18” x 24”, on cream colored paper.
This poster is especially close to Michael’s heart, since he spent most of his adult life living in Hollywood, and this is the Standard he frequented late at night after pub-crawls for before bed diner treats.
For Michael, The Standard, Hollywood is a respite for the queen of sleep, who rests dreamily in a luxurious cloud above the iconic skyline of The Standard, Hollywood hotel. There, she dreams of palm trees and Hollywood stars.
Before beginning this poster, Michael found inspiration in the fairy tale wonderment of Victorian artists like Harry Clark and Arthur Rackham. But as always, the modern marvel that is our current glamorous civilization exudes through the brilliant architecture of the Hollywood Standard Hotel.
Michael works from Pasadena, CA where he designs and prints his own work. The production of each poster takes approximately six to eight weeks from inception, starting with his hand drawn image. Screen-printing includes layering several single colors to construct an image. The craft of his making each color separation is unique and labor intensive, as is the hand printing that he does himself.
Michael’s clients include: All Tomorrow’s Parties Presents, the Hollywood Bowl, and Goldenvoice Presents. He has exhibited his work throughout the US and Europe. His work has been published in many books and magazines including The Art Of Modern Rock.
